HOUSTON – Niara Hightower and Jasmine Moore each had 12 kills and Alleah Dallas delivered match point as Bethune-Cookman rallied for a 3-2 (15-25,25-19,23-25,25-23, 15-10) upset of Grambling State in the Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament quarterfinals Friday night.
How it Happened
After tying the match with a fourth set victory, B-CU used a 5-0 run to take a 9-5 fifth set lead.
Grambling closed to 9-8, but a Moore kill capped off a 6-1 run that brought B-CU within a point to set the stage for Dallas’ match-winner.
Dallas and Mecca Freeman (17 digs) each added eight kills for B-CU, which lost to Grambling in five sets during the regular season.
Malina Spencer had seven kills.
Alisha Callender had 37 assists and 17 digs, while Adriana Marrero and Madison Coates posted 20 and 17 digs, respectively.
Grambling State finished the season 15-12.
